REVENUE AND FACILITIES DIRECTOR

Indiana Dunes Tourism (IDT) is accepting resumes for the Revenue and Facilities Director position. 

The revenue and facilities director is responsible for managing the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center Gift Shop, the Pedal Power Bike Rental business, and the Penny Smasher, which includes hiring and supervising staff, and purchasing and maintaining the inventory for each business. Initially, this person will write the business plan to assume full responsibility of the gift shop from Eastern National, which is the current vendor. This position will also be responsible for researching, developing, and managing new revenue programs, such as paid tours, food concessions, etc. 

This person will also oversee the maintenance of the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center building and grounds. This will also include assisting in the management of the refresh and the redesign of the visitor center grounds and building, as well as assisting in finding funding sources, such as grants, loans, etc., for the refresh and redesign project. 

This individual will hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business/management, facility management, or experience equivalent to a degree. They will have experience in finance management, budget management, supervising staff, and directing staff. They also must have strong computer skills, written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal relationship and customer relations skills.

 The salary is $57,761 and is non-negotiable. Benefits are included.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilities Management

  • Maintain and properly store inventory of office, building, and janitorial supplies.
  • Manage the upkeep of the Visitor Center and office spaces, which includes contracting with and overseeing the cleaning, lawn care, landscaping, maintenance companies, and capital replacement items.
  • Hire, train, and manage the Indiana Dunes ambassadors, volunteers and staffing for the gift shop and Pedal Power Bike Rental business. Management of these positions includes scheduling, supervising, training, creating work assignments, and evaluating job performance.
  • Work with the National Park Service visitor center supervisors, their staff, and the IDT staff to ensure quality experiences within the visitor center and on the phone. 
  • Manage issues that arise in the building, on the property, and with the equipment within the Visitor Center and offices.
  • Manage personnel issues that arise with the staff of the visitor center, gift shop, and bike business. 
  • Perform light office, building, and grounds cleaning and maintenance as necessary.
  • Create RFPs, RFQs, and/or RFPQs, and evaluate submissions for any services, product, and/or machinery needed for the Visitor Center and offices.
  • Review and update service contracts and equipment leases.
  • Schedule required services and maintenance for all aspects of the Visitor Center and offices.
  • Assist in refreshing the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center.
  • Assist in the redesign of the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center. 

Revenue Management

  • Develop and implement a business plan to take over the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center gift shop.
  • Manage the gift shop, which includes hiring, scheduling, and supervising staff, research, and purchase product for the gift shop, manage the inventory, and to work with the marketing team to promote the business. 
  • Manage Pedal Power Bike Rental business, which includes hiring, scheduling, and supervising staff, purchasing new equipment and amenities, overseeing the maintenance of the equipment, and working with the marketing team to promote the business. 
  • Maintain the Penny Smasher and Change Machine and process the coins on a weekly basis. 
  • Oversee the point-of-sale system. 
  • Work with the Senior Operations Director on the daily cash sales and reports. 
  • Research, develop, and implement other revenue programs, such as paid tours, concessions, or food vending machines, etc. 
  • Assist in researching other funding options for the visitor center redesign and Indigenous Cultural Trail, which could include assisting with writing and managing grants and sponsorships. 

Other Duties

  • Attend educational seminars.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business/management, facility management or experience equivalent to a degree. 
  • Experience in finance management.
  • Knowledge of accepted office policies and procedures with experience and/or education in office management preferred.
  • Experience in supervising and directing staff. 
  • Experience in budget management.
  • Demonstrated ability to discern delicate information and to maintain confidentiality when required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Apple, and Adobe software. 
  • Experience with word processing, database management, email organization, electronic presentations, spreadsheets, and project management software.
  • Knowledge of hospitality and tourism industry, which includes area attractions, programs, resources, and services.
  • Familiarity with Porter County. 
  • Possesses strong interpersonal relationship and customer relations skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and effectively in a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare and present reports.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize on-going projects and to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proven project management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work extended or irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Willingness to travel on Indiana Dunes Tourism business.
  • Provide own transportation.

The Revenue and Facilities Director reports directly to the President/CEO and Senior Operations Director.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The Revenue and Facilities Director performs duties in a standard office environment. Lifting of boxes of supplies and promotional materials, climbing of ladders, and light building and grounds maintenance and cleaning are required. Duties require travel to meetings, conferences, and events. Duties will require working in the evenings and on the weekends.

LICENSE / CERTIFICATION NEEDED:

Valid driver’s license and demonstrated safe driving record.

BACKGROUND CHECK:

An authorization form must be completed to allow Indiana Dunes Tourism to conduct a professional background check that may include: credit check; national and state criminal check; valid driver’s license check; education and professional credentials check; and performance references check.
