Protecting the Dunes

The towering dunes that give this area its name are beautiful, but they are also part of a fragile ecosystem. Bicycles are not permitted on the dunes themselves, as riding on loose sand can damage sensitive plants and contribute to erosion.

Check Out the Dunes Kankakee Trail

Bike from the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center to the Indiana Dunes State Park on this approximately two-mile paved trail.

Visitor Center to Mount Baldy

This road cycling route leads from the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center to Mount Baldy in the Indiana Dunes National Park. Views of Lake Michigan, the Century of Progress Homes, and Mount Baldy.
