When the snow begins to fall, sledding down a snow-packed hill is the first thing that comes to many people's minds. We've tracked down five of the most popular sledding hills here in the Indiana Dunes area. These parks are perfect for kids or adults itching to grab a sled or tube and speed down a snowy hill. Bundle up with your hat, gloves, and mask and head to one of these area sledding spots for some winter wonderland fun!
Coffee Creek Park

Coffee Creek Park becomes a prime spot for family sledding in the wintertime. It's locating right next to the historic Chesterton downtown, so after a day of sledding down this moderately-sized hill, you can grab a coffee or meal at one of the nearby restaurants or coffeehouses.
Countryside Park
If you're a history buff, try the sledding and tubing hills at Countryside Park. This 33-acre park is home to the Alton Goin Museum, Portage Historical Society, and the restored structures of the Traeger Homestead farm.

Indiana Dune State Park

Looking for a sledding adventure with an edge? Head to the 192 foot Devil's Slide at the Indiana Dunes State Park. Once you make your way up to the top, you'll be rewarded with a stunning view of Lake Michigan.
Rogers-Lakewood Park

Valparaiso's Rogers-Lakewood Park has a huge sledding hill with three chutes for sledding and tubing and one for tobogganing.
West Beach at Indiana Dunes National Park

Check out one of the newest sledding hills in the area at Indiana Dunes National Park's West Beach. The dune behind the picnic area was designated a sledding hill just recently. It has a large open sandy slope without any dune plants growing on it. Once you're done sledding, you can rest up at the picnic tables, and head to the beach for a winter stroll down the beach.
