This summer in the NWI, it seems that we're all on the search for that perfect nostalgic break. I keep hearing that inner voice calling louder and louder to return to the simple, to the slow, to that good, easy fun of our childhoods. And I know I'm not the only one hearing it. Yet the search for spaces that feel the same way, that can bring us back to those simpler times, seems nearly impossible.

Which is why we were so glad to discover Fireflies Fun Zone in Chesterton, IN. Close to the Indiana Dunes State Park and minutes away from downtown Chesterton, this unexpected find offers a variety of great nostalgic fun for all ages of littles!

Our absolute favorite part of Fireflies, and their main attraction, is their massive Jungle gym. The many climbers, obstacles, and slick slides reminded us so dearly of our old favorite fast food playgrounds. They even included a designated toddler spot with lots of soft play animal climbers, building blocks, interactive learning spots, and even a mini jungle gym—of which my little one was a huge fan!

And of course, what would a true retro fun zone be without an arcade? We loved their variety of games and activities, with a great little prize counter. For the older kiddos ready for some competitive fun, Fireflies even offers Laser Tag.

An arcade with a green carpet floor, several colorful games, and illuminated ceiling spheres under a blue metal roof.

Fireflies even takes off the burden of packing snacks, hallelujah! Their sweet little Cafe Jr. serves a little something to refresh and replenish for everyone, including this mom's much-needed caffeine boost. (They even offer special vegan and vegetarian treats from their lovely next-door neighbor, Tiger Lily Cafe.)

One thing that surprised us about Fireflies Fun Zone is just how much of a hidden gem it is! We hadn't heard much about it before our visit, and there isn't a ton of information available online about what to expect. So, if Fireflies is new to you, too, we're here to give you the scoop and help you plan your visit.

When we visited, the cost to enter and play at Fireflies was $8 per child and $2 per adult. Socks are required to play in the Jungle gym, but don't worry if they're forgotten at home (trust me, it's happened to us all). Fireflies sells all sizes of the cutest socks at the counter for $2.50 a pair. And as always, definitely plan to wear comfy play clothes and bring your camera! My little one and I truly loved this magical little spot - and if you're ready to escape the blistering heat and take a step back into the good old days, then we know you'll love this NWI gem too!
