Twinkling lights, falling snow, the warmth of friends and family — there are so many beautiful things to enjoy about the holidays. If you're in the Indiana Dunes this holiday season, here’s our guide to the best Christmas and holiday activities in the area.

The Bozak Family Christmas Light Show

Christmas lights with Nightmare Before Christmas Characters

You might be wondering, "Where can I see Christmas lights near me?" Well, in the Indiana Dunes, you're in for a treat! Every year, the Bozak Family transforms their family home in Burns Harbor into an enchanting light show. The lights are timed to music, so tune into 92.5 FM and watch the show come to life!

Dates: November 30 through January 1

  • Sunday – Thursday: 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Friday & Saturday: 4:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

There is also a donation box at the home, with 100% of the proceeds going to The Caring Place, a Valparaiso-based nonprofit organization providing assistance and shelter to women and children in need.

Hometown Holiday Celebration

Celebrate Small Business Saturday, Chesterton style. On November 30, Chesterton's European Market will step into the holiday spirit with the help of local vendors, artists, and chefs. And, if you get tired from all the walking and eating, you can even take a carriage ride through historic Downtown Chesterton.

To get the full Hometown Holiday Celebration experience, make sure to head to the Thomas Centennial Park gazebo at 5:00 p.m. for the Christmas tree Lighting Ceremony, followed by the Twilight Parade beginning at 5:15 p.m.

Stick around until the end, and you may just see Santa and Mrs.Claus arrive on their sleigh!

Holiday Market on the Square

On November 30, get into the holiday spirit by visiting Holiday Market on the Square at Founders Square in Portage. The event features caroling, artisan vendors, a live Nativity scene, and Santa, of course!

Winter Lights Drive-Thru

From November 23 to January 1, drive through Sunset Hill Farm County Park to see this magical Christmas lights display in Valparaiso. The Winter Lights Drive-Thru runs every night between 4:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. — with accompanying music, of course!

Mistletoe Market

On December 7, Chesterton's European Market gets a holiday makeover. At Mistletoe Market, you'll get to browse the stalls from artists and craftspeople and find the perfect gifts for your loved ones. Or, taste some of the delicious baked goods made by local chefs and bakers — you won't be able to resist the smell. While shopping and eating, enjoy the nostalgic sounds of holiday music.

Annual Christmas Craft Show

Head over to Portage on December 7 and 8 to shop and browse over 70 vendors selling their crafts and art at the Annual Christmas Craft Show—there's no better place to find unique gifts for friends and family! Admission is free, but shoppers are encouraged to bring a pet-friendly gift to donate to the Hobart Humane Society.
