Gibson Woods Nature Preserve
Thousands of years ago, glaciers receded and left Lake Michigan and a series of dunes and swales lying parallel to today’s lakeshore. The 131-acre Gibson Woods Nature Preserve protects a sizeable remnant of this landscape, with 3.5 miles of trails through the preserve’s dominant habitat—black oak savanna. The Gibson Woods Environmental Awareness Center houses natural history exhibits and live reptiles and amphibians.
