South Shore Line: The Way to the Dunes

The Midwest Rail Rangers, a partner of the Indiana Dunes State Park, will be presenting an onboard educational program aboard the South Shore Line train today.

Ride and learn about everything outside the window between Chicago and Michigan City or South Bend… including the Indiana Dunes State Park! The landscape gets a whole new perspective when seen from the historic South Shore Line route.

Eastbound Midwest Rail Rangers programs to Michigan City on the South Shore Line take place aboard Train #7, which originates at Chicago-Millennium Station at 8:45 am (CT). Passengers can board at any of the five South Shore stations located in the City of Chicago; also Hammond, East Chicago, Gary/Chicago Airport, Gary/Metro Center, Miller, Portage/Ogden Dunes, Dune Park, or Beverly Shores. For a complete train schedule, visit http://www.mysouthshoreline.com. ; Eastbound interpretive programs terminate at Michigan City-Carroll Avenue at 10:27 am (CT). Westbound Midwest Rail Rangers programs on the South Shore Line take place aboard Train #116, which originates at Michigan City-Carroll Avenue at 10:55 am (CT). Trains make all return stops mentioned above.

Please note that the Rail Rangers’ narration is only presented in one car of the train, where seating is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. Look for the car that has yellow signs on the inside to find the Rail Rangers car (normally towards the middle of the train). Reservations are neither needed, nor accepted. A regular train ticket is needed to participate in this program and can be purchased from a South Shore Line ticket agent or vending machine. Ticket prices are approximately $30 roundtrip from Chicago-Millennium to South Bend-Airport. Select programs also feature Junior Rail Rangers programs and passport park stamps.
