How to Entertain your Grandparents at the Indiana Dunes
Hi kids! We know you want to bring your grandparents to the Indiana Dunes, but how will you keep them entertained? Grandmas and grandpas need things to keep them occupied, so we’ve made this handy checklist to help you take care of all their needs while visiting Indiana Dunes Country.
Take them to the beach.
They will love putting their feet in the sand and feeling the cool lake breeze. Grandma will make you wear your sunscreen, but it’s your job to make sure the sandcastles get built. Use our handy information here about which beach to choose.
Cool them off with ice cream.
A trip to Valpo Velvet after the beach is always a win. Not only will you get delicious ice cream, but your grandparents will enjoy the history behind this shop owned for three generations.
Take them on a new adventure.
Visit Broken Wagon Bison Farm to get up close to real bison. Grandpa will love listening to owners Bud and Wally talk about their vast knowledge of raising bison, and you’ll get to ride in a wagon out to the grazing fields.
Wear them down before bed.
Zao Island is perfect for making sure grandparents are ready for a good night sleep. You can get pizza for dinner, play laser tag, ride in go-carts, and hit the batting cages. If they still have energy, there’s an arcade. They’ll probably be pretty intrigued by the special room with vintage arcade games like Pac Man.
Make sure they get a souvenir.
Grandparents want to remember their trip with you. Take them to Ceramix 101, a paint-your-own ceramics studio. There are more than 500 paintable items to choose from, and they can ship your finished creations to Grandma and Grandpa’s house.
If you need any more ideas to keep your grandparents busy, our Activities Guide is packed full of adventures in the Indiana Dunes. Be sure to check it out.
P.S. Grandparent’s Day is always the first Sunday in September. Even if you can’t bring them to the dunes that day, be sure to give them a call. They will love to hear from you. 🙂
