Duneland Communities
For a lucky few of our communities, the Indiana Dunes are practically their backyard. We call these lovely places the Duneland Communities, and though they may be small in size, they’re mighty in charm and unique appeal. Chesterton, for example is home to a large number of artists and full of character. Burns Harbor is tucked between the worlds of industry and eco-friendly neighborhoods. And Porter is a family-friendly natural wonder with more restaurants per capita of any town in Indiana Dunes Country.
Lakefront Communities
These are our most exclusive areas—completely residential, very private, and oh-so-enviable. Beverly Shores features the five “Century of Progress” homes built for the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair. Ogden Dunes began as a resort town and now boasts an upscale community of year-round homes. Town of Pines is a tiny borough with a retro vibe and the shortest named highway in the state. And Dune Acres is a close-knit community that enjoys cookouts on private beaches.
Valparaiso
The arts are alive in Valparaiso! From music to handiwork to theater productions, creativity adds a unique excitement to the two hundred years of history, incredible shopping and varied cuisine that make this city such a hot spot.
Portage
Outdoors-friendly Portage is in the heart of the American steel industry. It’s also at the tip of Lake Michigan with a public marina that has access for boating and fishing. The decentralized downtown features pockets of business, recreation and entertainment—hidden delights that never cease to amaze.
Country Living Communities
Even though we’re only 50 miles from one of the largest cities in the United States, Indiana Dunes Country is still very much a down-home, corn-fed, please-and-thank-you slice of the Midwest. We’re proud of our pioneer roots and our farming heritage—and nowhere is that more apparent than in our southern rural communities. Kouts has a sense of friendliness and community that surrounds you. And Hebron combines pioneering history with small-town charm.
