Victorian era gardens welcome visitors to the elegant 1885 Brown Mansion, which houses the works of Northern Porter County artists and exhibits that detail the history of the area and saving the Indiana Dunes. Don't miss the exhibit that tells the story of the Prairie Club, one of the nation's early environmental advocacy groups. During the summer, the museum hosts a free concert series on Fridays in Thomas Park, as well as many other public programs. The museum store offers a great selection of books, posters, and maps related to the history of Westchester Township and the Indiana Dunes. Free tours of the 16-room, Queen Anne-style mansion are offered Wednesday-Sunday, 1 - 5 p.m. or by appointment. Groups of 10 or more should call the museum to schedule a tour.
