Information on COVID-19

To Our Visitors and Residents

As we face this historical COVID-19 health crisis, our goal is to help keep our Indiana Dunes area visitors and residents informed, healthy, and safe.

In an effort to slow the further spread of COVID-19, Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb released an order for Hoosiers to stay at home until April 7 unless they are doing essential activities. These include, but are not limited to, activities for health and safety, acquiring necessary supplies and services, outdoor recreational activities, certain types of essential work, and taking care of others.

We understand that this crisis has caused travel plans to change and we want you to know that we are currently working on short and long-term solutions to make travel to the Indiana Dunes area as safe as possible as soon as possible. We encourage residents and visitors to responsibly and safely enjoy outdoor activities in the Indiana Dunes area, practicing social distancing guidelines.

We look forward to spending more time in the Indiana Dunes with you when the time is right.

The Indiana Dunes National Park

Almost all of the National Park access points and trails are open, but social distancing practices are highly recommended. The Indiana Dunes National Park has closed all public buildings and restrooms throughout the park due to the coronavirus. They have also closed the Lake View Beach Access point and portions of Lakefront Drive in Beverly Shores due to beach erosion. To learn more, visit nps.gov/indu/index.htm.

The Indiana Dunes State Park

The Department of Natural Resources is keeping all properties, including state parks, state forests, fish and wildlife areas, nature preserves and state recreation areas open, and the entrance fees at these properties have been temporarily suspended. Campgrounds will also remain open for paid reservations only; however, all property offices, inns, restaurants, welcome centers, playgrounds, cabins, and other facilities have been closed. Visit in.gov/dnr, to learn more.

Eat, Play, & Shop

Restaurants, breweries, wineries, and retailers throughout the Indiana Dunes area are providing delivery, carryout, and curbside pickup during the governor’s shelter in place directive and prohibition of in-person dining. To support local businesses, visit our Eat, Play, & Shop page to find your favorite restaurant or retailer, then call ahead to make sure they’re still providing services.

For a running list of local restaurants and businesses offering delivery, takeout, and curbside pickup during the COVID-19 crisis, visit www.nwistrong.com.
