Victorian era gardens welcome visitors to the elegant 1885 Brown Mansion, which houses the works of Northern Porter County artists and exhibits that detail the history of the area and saving the Indiana Dunes. Don't miss the exhibit that tells the story of the Prairie Club, one of the nation's early environmental advocacy groups. During the summer, the museum hosts a free concert series on Fridays in Thomas Park, as well as many other public programs. The museum store offers a great selection of books, posters, and maps related to the history of Westchester Township and the Indiana Dunes. Free tours of the 16-room, Queen Anne-style mansion are offered Wednesday-Sunday, 1 - 5 p.m. or by appointment. Groups of 10 or more should call the museum to schedule a tour.

Join in at the Brown Mansion for a afternoon of caroling around the Hillstrom organ. Led by the museum's own Joan Costello, learn a little about the history of some beloved carols and join in the festive singing of holiday tunes, all to the accompaniment of the 19th-century Hillstrom organ.

The museum will host a traditional Victorian Christmas party. Make traditional Christmas ornaments with museum educator Susan Swarner from 1-2 pm. Stay for Christmas caroling with Dot Pakan on the Hillstrom organ from 2-3 pm. At 3 pm, Rory McMahan will be reading The Burglar's Christmas by Willa Cather. Visit the new exhibit "stores of Yesteryear" and enjoy some Christmas refreshments.

Join Jim Nelson for a festive afternoon of Swedish Christmas music and traditions. Jim will sing traditional Swedish Christmas mucis and tell the tales behind them. Some of the songs will be sung in the Swedish language.
