Recreation Resources
The Great Lakes defy (and define) the definition of the word “lake.” Any lake large enough to have a tide (still debated among the locals) should be an ocean, right? Immense ships traverse these lakes, industrial centers such as Chicago have arisen around these lakes, and tourists have made then among the most desirable non-coastal waters for relaxation and recreation in the U.S. and Canada.
The glaciers that formed these lakes thousands of years ago left a dramatically altered landscape as they retreated. Debris left behind collected as a series of moraines immediately south of the lake, and the Kankakee River and its marshes formed an almost impenetrable border. Although much of this distinctive landscape has been most recently altered by man, there are remnants of these regions that still offer incredible recreational opportunities.
What would you like to do this next trip? Bird? Fish? Hike? Bike? Canoe or kayak? Photograph? The opportunities to play are here in spades. Pack the car, strap on the kayak and bike, throw in the camera and binoculars, and head beyond the beach. We will help you find exactly what you are looking for, and all you must do is relax, decompress, and play!
