Spring Out to Sunset offers family fun
Every year, Porter County Parks and Recreation celebrates this seasonal transformation and the approach of summer with Spring Out to Sunset.
The event takes place on May 14 at Sunset Hill Farm County Park in Valparaiso, and is geared toward family friendly activities such as flying kites, wagon rides, pony rides and inflatable activities.
Porter County Parks and Recreation Educator Amy Hartz is the lead organizer for this year’s event, and said the goal was to promote families getting outdoors and spending time together.
“Spring Out to Sunset has grown each year since it began,” she said. “This year, we are offering an even wider variety of events and are looking forward to a day that is full of fun. Nothing is better than seeing families spending the day at the park enjoying the activities we offer.”
Some of the highlights of Spring Out to Sunset this year will be the 180 GO! Kite Performance Team, the Indy Dog and Disc Club, a kite vendor, food vendors, the Porter County Animal Shelter and Andy Linder, the footbag world record holder.
The 180 GO! team performs at festivals around the country, showing off precision aerial maneuvers and formations that are known to draw crowds. The Indy Dog and Disc Club will put on a demonstration of impressive tricks with specially trained canines. People are welcome to bring their own dogs to the event as well.
A variety of vendors will have booths at Spring Out to Sunset, specializing in everything from pets, to health and fitness, to outdoor recreation.
“We have more than 30 groups and businesses all geared toward family fun scheduled for Spring Out to Sunset,” Hartz said. “There really will be something for everyone. And Sunset Hill Farm County Park is the perfect place for families and friends to gather and enjoy a spring day.”
The cost for this event is $5 per car. For more information, call 219-465-3586 or visit Porter County Parks and Recreation on Facebook at www.facebook.com/pcparksandrec.
