America’s Third Coast
Living on a coast is something very few Midwesterners can claim. Here in Indiana there are 43 miles of Lake Michigan Coastline. Coastal living at its best! Just over 45 miles and under 1 hour from the hustle and bustle of downtown Chicago, I am reminded of the peace of nature. Outside my window this very minute a bird finds respite from flight in a newly planted tree and the leaves are just beginning to harken fall’s signature color. It is Coast Week, the week Indiana sets aside each year to remind all Hoosiers what an incredible resource that we steward for the rest of the world. We hosted a “Discover Your Coast” Geocaching event here at the Visitor Center on Monday in which 65 people participated. How absolutely fun to see newbie geocachers (just two weeks in to a new hobby) and veterans (1000 cache collectors) converge and collaborate to find more than 17 new caches created just for this event. Time to go do some discovering of my own!
